TSU will install the universal access terminal

22 Января 2019

The first device combining an electronic pass and recognition of a person by biometric data will appear in the 31st building of the university, where the Institute of Economics and Management (IEM) is located. The terminal has already been developed by specialists from MobyLabs, Sparc, and Tsifronomika under the project The Campus Map of Tomsk State University.

Now the IEM entrance zone is equipped with a pilot system of digital access control, created by MobyLabs, Sparc, and Tsifronomika. It includes several radiation detectors for reading various devices. However, an improved terminal will not require this; it will become much more compact and easier to use.

- This project was initiated because TSU as a federal institution must, on one hand, close the safety loop, and on the other, the university is an open area. Initially, since its inception, it has served as a place for both education and communication for all citizens of our country and other countries. This conflict, which needs to be resolved, led to the idea of creating a platform that will provide both security and free access to the university buildings, said Konstantin Belyakov, TSU Vice-Rector for Innovation.

Having worked through the identification possibilities, the specialists realized that the most correct approach to solving this problem should be multifactorial. This is a device that will be able to determine a person’s identity when using a mobile phone, bank card, and electronic passes that are available to TSU staff and students. Plus, the terminals will be equipped with a video recognition system.

- As a result, we got a pilot project that gave almost one hundred percent identification of a person at the entrance. At the same time, any citizen will be able to receive in advance a profile that is an identifier by sending his photo and biometric parameters to the university’s security service, - explained Konstantin Belyakov.

Now the project team is looking for funds to bring the existing development to a pre-production sample for further implementation at TSU and replication at other similar facilities. According to preliminary estimates, about 115.5 million rubles (1.5 million euros) is needed for these purposes.
